Navigating Housing for Varying Needs
Part 1 and 2

 Home page
The Home page contains text which introduces you to the online version of Housing for Varying Needs and links to data peripheral to the online publications such as Further Information. The "Home" link on the top menu bar will return you to the Home Page.

Using Housing For Varying Needs on the web
From the home page you can select Housing for Varying Needs Part 1 or Part 2.

When you have selected which Part you wish to browse, you will be taken to the Acknowdgements Page. 

The full contents list can be seen by clicking on the word Contents on the left of the screen. The left-hand frame shows a full list of Inroductory Pages and Chapters. Sub-headings within each chapter can be viewed by clicking on the Chapter heading.  Each of the headings in Contents is a link to that section, helping you navigate through the chapter quickly and easily. Alternatively, if you are reading section by section, you can use the Previous/Next buttons to navigate.

Show/Hide Contents
You can choose to show or hide the Contents by clicking on the word Contents.

If you are reading through the material in its logical sequence (i.e. as though turning the pages of a book), or prefer to expand the main content area so that it displays more text or a larger image, you may wish to remove the full Contents list from view.

If you remove Contents from view, you can still navigate through the text by using the Previous/Next buttons.

Glossary
Throughout the text you will notice that words or phrases appear in blue text. The blue text represents a glossary term. As you move the mouse over these words, the glossary defintion will appear in a pop up box. Alternatively, you can click on the word to take you to the full glossary page.

Summary of Design Criteria
Some chapters contain a summary of design criteria and these are listed at the end of the contents list for that particular chapter. If you select this point in the text, you will be presented with a table listing out which sections of the publication contain relevant design criteria. These references appear in blue and are hyperlinks to the text.

The summary of design criteria also appears on the navigation bar at the top of the chapter. If you click on this text, a pop up box  will appear containing the design criteria. The box will disappear when you click on the top right corner.

Printing
Because the presentation of this publication is frames based, to print off information,  you will need to be sure that you activate the part of the screen that you wish to print. That is, if you are viewing the full text with the Contents visible, be sure to click in the main content area to the right before you click your Browser's print button to be sure to print that area.
